Chapter 1
1. What problems or conflicts are presented in chapter one? Tao needing to find a rabbit is an obvious one; identify at least two more.
One of the problems is that he came back really late to the tribe and got in trouble with Volt. Another problem is that he likes to draw and that is a taboo.
2. Predict the resolution of each conflict. Example:
conflict: Tao needs to find a rabbit.
predicted resolution: He will find the one he lost.
Conflict: That Tao came Late to the tribe and Volt saw him.
Predicted Resolution:I think that Volt is not really going to hurt him maybe just scream at him because he has come late to the tribe.
Conflict: That Tao is drawing and that is a very bad taboo.
Predicted Resolution:I think that he is not going to stop drawing no matter how bad a of a taboo it is. But i think that he is going to find a way that no one will find out that he draws like in a cave or something.

Chapter 2
What two important events happen in this chapter?
One of the important events is that he found out that the wolf wouldn't eat because he had a silver bone stuck in his mouth and then Tao pulled it out no matter how bad it hurt until he finally took it out.
The second event is that the started to imagine his mom and then he started to draw on the walls and he got color by picking up shells that had color and got it off of from there.

They learned that they hunt better together than just them alone.
2. What decision does Tao tell Volt?
Tao said that why don't we have wolf hunting with us, they could be better help but Volt says that wolfs are demons and they don't want to hunt with demons.
3. Look at Tao's decisions and actions from Volt's perspective. Pretend you are Volt. Write a first person paragraph explaining how you feel.
If I were Volt I would probably say" Are you crazy if we take wolfs hunting they are going to eat our food instead of us eating it. You should think about the things that might happen if we take those demons with us hunting. You never know if they might just end up eating us instead."

Tao's mother was a very good mother she didn't let anyone take Tao away from. Since he was crippled they thought that they should feed him to the hyenas so that since he wouldn't be able to hunt they would always have to be feeding him and if he was dead they wouldn't have to worry about him. Here is one of the quotations that describe her "Again and again they tried to take you away, but she fought like a cave lion, screaming, biting and refusing to give you up."

I agree and disagree because Tao knows that it's a taboo for all of the clans not to draw except for the chosen ones. At the same time i disagree because what if Tao's religion isn't the same as all of the clans. Why can't he do something that he likes to do a lot. He's not drawing anything bad. Also Graybeard was right for those times that it was a taboo, but in some countries or religions your still not aloud to draw. Most of the popularity of countries and religions allow you to draw.
Chapter 8
An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today, where a person's desires go against society's expectations
What situation did you imagine?
I imagined that there is a girl that lives in a farm with her parents and her parents want her to grow up, marry someone from the same place and religion, and to have children. She loves to decorate cloths and she is really good at it. When she grows up she wants to be a cloths designer, have the husband of her dreams, have the house of her dreams, and have a really good family. Yet her parents don't understand her and that gets her really mad.
In the situation you imagined, should the person follow his or her dreams or should they follow society's rules? Give your opinion.
She should follow her dreams because it's her life not her parents and her life is her choice no one else's. Also her parents can't tell her what her future is gonna be and tell her what she should do. No one can tell you what to do because it's your life.

Why do you think Graybeard changed his mind?
In the begining Graybeard didn't want to teach him how to draw because Tao got him mad and also cause Graybeard did believe in taboos. After a while he actually changes his mind of not teaching Tao how to draw because i think that he feels bad for him because Tao likes to draw a lot that he doesn't care if he gets in trouble.
What does this tell you about his character?
This tells me that Graybeard is a caring, gets mad easily, and that he cares for everyone from the clans. Also that he does want to help the people from the clans like he said.

Chapter 11
Do you think Graybeard is a good teacher? Why?
Yes, I think that Graybeard is a good teacher because he is taking some of his time to teach Tao how to draw and to teach him how to draw a lot of animals behind one another.
Would you like to have been taught a skill by him? WThy?
Maybe, not so sure because i don't want to have to gather some meat and blood just to draw a picture but if I did have the chance but i didn't have to gather those type of things I would.

1. Name some of the ingredients used to make paint. Which surprised you most?
Some of the ingredients are duck eggs, blood,fish oil,animal fat, and some honey. The one that surprised me the most s the white stuff of the eggs and that made the picture more shinning and more alive.
2. Why is Tao afraid at the end of the chapter?
He was afraid that something might happen to Graybeard because while he was leaving the cave Tao heard a hacking cough.

No because Volt would not like Ram no matter what. If Volt were to know that Tao hunts with a wolf dog he would want to kill the dog and not want to see Tao.

I think that they are going to catch Tao and might kill Ram.

He crosses the river because Ram crossed it also that if Tao didn't cross it and tell Ram to run farther they would have seen him and kill him.

He thinks that since he is about to die he should now let the people know that he is gonna be a cave painter and also that his painting will make the spirits really happy and that he is going to be a cave painter no matter if he is not a chosen one.
